Worksheets for short a words

For quite a few months now, I’ve been doing early reading activities with my Five. He is getting much better at quickly sounding out CVC words thanks to our hands-on activities and games.

After all this practice, I knew that my Five was ready for some review/assessment with a worksheet pack.

The pack includes nine worksheets, not so that you need to do all of them but so that you can pick and choose the ones that work for your learners. We started with this matching page. After we did the activity I realized it would be better to have the words in the first column so that he had to read them before finding the pictures, instead of vice versa. (The two columns are switched in the download.)

I’ve found that beginning readers may be exhausted by a lot of writing activities, so I kept that to a minimum in the bundle. In the above example, my Five only had to name each picture and glue it under the proper word family name.

This activity has the same idea, but each word begins with a blend or digraph.

This was the last activity that we did today. He colored the letters of each word and wrote the words on the line.

Writing each word was pretty tiring for him (he hasn’t started kindergarten yet), so it was time to be done after this worksheet.

I had told him that after he did some worksheets, he could type on my computer. He was soon very busy typing the numbers 1-100, which is one of his favorite things to do. 🙂

We hope you can use some of the pages in this bundle!
